China had organized and held the Kunming Meeting, thinking of the Myanmar affairs as if only the stability of the China-Myanmar border region and Kyarphan Gang. However, China had head on fire again under the sounds of airstrikes launched by the junta’s military on December 18.
After the three brotherhood alliances and the representatives of the junta met in Kunming according to the planning of the Chinese Government during the first week of December, the fighting calmed down in the Kokang region after December 11. However, the fighter jets of the dying junta’s military began bombing on December 18, 2023.
The junta’s military had carried out 49 airstrikes on the Kokang region from December 18 to 21, and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) had announced that the junta’s military attacked an offensive to the MNDAA’s fort in Lo Sham Htang area in Kokang region in the evening of December 18.
At a regular press conference on December 21, the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the implementation of the negotiations as soon as possible. This is the urge of the Chinese Foreign Ministry after the resurgence of violence in the Kokang region.
Some news reports said that the three alliances and the junta’s representatives did not reach any agreement during the Kunming meeting, but the Chinese government said that agreements were reached. However, neither the three alliances and the junta nor the Chinese government have disclosed what kind of agreement was reached.
If we talk about the scene, the MNDAA’s offensive stopped after the Kunming meeting, but the junta launched airstrikes on December 18, and the junta troops surrendered at the Yanglongkai border gate, which is about 3 miles northeast of Laukkai city, and the MNDAA was able to easily capture that gate. There was a fierce battle between the MNDAA and the junta’s military in Laukkai town in the morning of December 20.
In addition, not only Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Arakan Army (AA) are carrying out their usual offensive after the Kunming meeting, and the TNLA had captured Namsan town on December 15, Namkham town on December 19 and Mantong town on December 22.
As long as the fighting has intensified in Laukkai town, there is also a question about the whereabouts of 10 people _ including Peng Jiasheng, the former head of the Kokang region who is a junta’s influential leader who was issued an arrest warrant by the Chinese government.
In the past, whenever the Chinese government had issued an arrest warrant on the suspicion of an online money fraud gang known as ‘Kyarphan’, the regime used to issue the warrant, but now the regime is still pretending not to know about the 10 people including Peng Jiasheng.
The Chinese Government has not revealed that those 10 people have been captured, so it is impossible for the regime to hand those people over to China. Some unconfirmed reports say that the junta generals have evacuated those 10 people from Laukkai to Nay Pyi Taw, defying China.
If that is true, the regime defies and responds to the Chinese government’s determination to resolutely destroy the Laukkai-Kyarphan gang, and this may even affect the Kunming meeting sponsored by the Chinese government.
China’s current hope for Myanmar affairs is to remove the influencers of the junta from Luakkai and keep back Laukkai into the hands of the MNDAA in order to make Laukkai clean from Kyarphan gang, and then the three alliances have to stop fighting and have not to participate in the Spring Revolution. These hopes are just China’s imagination. However, it is like the regime is destroying China’s imagination.
Kunming meetings may continue to be held with the junta and three alliances according to China’s wish, but it is not easy to reach an agreement between them, and it is impossible to extinguish the raging flame war with Chinese influence.
The Spring Revolution is the flag of the Myanmar people, and the Myanmar affairs are only like the will of the Myanmar people, and the democratic dream of the Myanmar people is as solid as a rock that cannot be destroyed by anyone.
