The village administrator of Ahnoe Chaung in Dala Township, Yangon Region, said that women are also going to be recruited for military service this time.
On May 15, the village administrator of Ahnoe Chaung said that eligible women for conscription would have to draw lots in the village, and if they didn’t want to draw lots, they would have to pay 120,000 kyats each, according to some local residents.
“This time, the women have to draw lots for conscription. If they don’t want to vote, they have to pay 120,000 kyats each. And some residents go abroad to work. Those people are in the census but are no longer at home now. So those whose families are still forced to pay money to the village administrator to do nothing by the military,” a resident of Ahnoe Chaung village told MPA.
According to a person close to the Dala administration community, the administrator of Ahnoe Chaung village, U Wa Tin, was also warned by some of the resistance forces based in Yangon.
“He (village administrator) was called and warned by the Yangon Informant Clearing Group. Residents in the village complained that he extorted money from them. This group warned him that they would kill him if he threatened and forced women to join the conscription. I heard that the people complained together with his phone number and photo,” he said.
In the first week of March, the people of Ahnoe Chaung village who did not want to serve in the military had to pay 40,000 kyats each to the village administrator.
“If people don’t want to serve conscription, they have to pay 40,000 kyats each. Those who don’t pay will have to draw lots. The whole village had to pay money because all residents didn’t want to join military service. Only those ineligibles for conscription didn’t give money,” a resident of Ahnoe Chaung village said.
Dala Township has 23 Wards and 23 Villages, and the military has issued a curfew in the township between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. and is located on the other side of Yangon.
