According to No. 52 Strategic Column (Shwebo District), a junta column had been raiding in Tanze Township, Sagaing Region, killed a civilian, placed the body in a house, and set it on fire.
On May 25, 2024, at around 8:30 a.m., a column of about 200 junta soldiers entered Toketaloke (North) village from Kyun Lel Village, splitting into two columns, an official from Shwe Bo District No. 52 Strategic Column said.
“The column opened fire into the village, and some people escaped. The woman who was killed was shot in the head while she was running away,” an official from Shwebo District’s No. 52 Strategic Column told MPA.
The deceased woman was 54-year-old Myint Myint San from Toketaloke (North) village.
“Currently, the column is stationed separately in three villages, with about 40 soldiers in Ywathit Village. So far, there have been no clashes with defense forces,” the official explained.
Due to that column, the people of 12 villages, including Toketaloke (North), Toketaloke (South) village, Thaekone village, Aung Thukha village, and Ywathit village, are fleeing, said a person who did not want to be named.
“Our village began evacuating yesterday morning. We are taking shelter in field huts, the homes of families in villages where the column is far away, monasteries, and schools. It has been raining since yesterday, and it also rained this morning, making it difficult for those of us staying in the field huts,” he said.
According to residents, raids by junta columns has forced people in the northern part of Taze Township to flee since May 19, 2024. They are in urgent need of food and shelter, especially as it continues to rain.
