Nay Min, the quartermaster in charge of the 12th Battalion of Yinmabin District, said that 29 residents from Taung Ywa Thit and Kyauk Gone Villages were arrested by the Pyu Saw Htee militia and military junta troops in Inma Htee Village, Pale Township, Sagaing Region, four of them were killed, with the arrests being carried out – posing as the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
On May 24, 2024, around 11:00 a.m., 29 residents from Taungyaw New and Kyaukgon Villages, who were engaged in farming, were arrested for no reason. Six of them were released later that day, while 23 remain under arrest.
Of the 23 people who were arrested, four were killed by Pyu Saw Htee militia and military junta forces. The remaining 19 were released on May 27, around 11:00 am.
“On the 24th, farm workers and woodcutters were abducted by Pyu leader Aye Min and military troops from Inmathi Pyu village under the guise of PDF. According to those who escaped, the bodies of the victims were dragged with a rope like animals,” Nay Min told MPA.
The people killed by Pyu Saw Htee militia and junta forces were identified as a 50-year-old man named Kyaw Khaing, a 30-year-old man named Tun Naing, a 25-year-old man named Tint Zaw Oo, and a 23-year-old man named Tun Naing Lin.
Nay Min continued, “those who were released had to be ransomed. A total of MMK 2,500,000, along with three boxes of beer, one box of alcohol, eggs, and rice, was given for their release.”
Among those who were released were 17 people from Taung Ywa Thit Village and two women living in Kyauk Gone Village.
“Those who have been released have also been tortured and beaten. Taung Ywa Thit is not far from Kan Daunt Police Station. From here, we could see Inmahtee Village. They (Pyu Saw Htee militia from Inmahti village) have planted landmines. We don’t even dare to go to our own fields,” said a resident of Taung Ywa Thit.
On February 28, 2024, three people were arrested and food was taken away after the junta troops raided Taung Ywa Thit Village, Pale Township.
