The junta column that came out of Kanchaw Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, killed three civilians, according to the Myingyan People’s Strike Committee.
On May 22, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m., a military junta column that went from Kanchaw Village, Myingyan, to Nabuaing Village killed three civilians, arrested and inspected passers-by on the Nabuaing Road in Myingyan.
“Two men who were taken as hostages from Kanchaw village were shot dead when they (junta troops) arrived in Nabuaing village. They burned and killed a mentally ill person from Nabuaing. They even killed a mentally ill person,” a man from Myingyan told MPA.
In addition, on May 23, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., the army stationed on the houses in Nabuaing Village and armed with heavy weapons. It was reported that they were shooting at the villages of Gintge, Ywashe, Nyaung To, and Thit Yan, west of Nabuaing Village, on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy River.
“It is not safe to live in the nearby villages along the lines of Ywagyi, Myothar, Talote and Simeekhone. After the incident in Soneywa Village, they are burning, killing people, and taking food and stuff from all the villages in the north of Myingyan. We don’t even dare to travel on Myingyan-Simeekhon Road,” said a woman who lives in Myingyan.
At present, more than 10,000 local residents from the villages of Ma Yoe Gone, Zalat Gone, Kan Taw, Gintge, Ywashe, Nyaung To, Thityan, Kaing, Yandabo, Udaya, Sin Chaung, Taw Pu and Simeekhon are fleeing.
“Villages in Myingyan Township are razed by fire. The fighting in Myingyan, Natogyi and Taung Thar is so fierce that the prices of cheroots have risen. It has increased three times more than before. So, traders, sellers and buyers have faced difficulties,” said a cheroot merchant from Natogyi Township.
On May 13, 2024, the military junta troops burned down about 400 public houses in Ywashe Village, Myingyan Township, and killed five civilians.
According to the May 23, 2024, release of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 5,138 people have been killed by the military junta during the three years since the coup.
