Elderly people who were trapped by a military column in a village in the eastern part of Taze Township, Sagaing Region, were rescued and given medical treatment, according to the Taze Township’s Medical Unit of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
The PLA and its allies rescued more than 40 people _ who were trapped by the military column for 7 days, on April 29.
“The column has been patrolling since last April 22. I can’t say the name of this village due to security reasons. The village is almost always raided by the junta column every time. Now, when the column raids the village, the elderly were trapped in the village because they did not have time to flee, so the resistance comrades rescued those elderly,” the PLA’s Taze Township’s Medical Corps officer told MPA.
The PLA is reportedly giving medical treatment to a total of more than 180 elderly _ who have been rescued, and displaced people _ who are in poor health.
“Most of the children suffer from diarrhea due to the hot weather and the difficulty of drinking water, so they need medical treatment,” he said.
While fleeing from the war, they used water from hand-scooped waterholes, and most of them suffered from diarrhea because of the unclean drinking water.
“In some places, the water is mixed with mud. In some places, the water smells of rust. We use dirty water for cooking and drinking, so we get sick. It’s good because the medical team is nearby,” said a resident who fled the war.
Currently, the military column is still only in Taze Township, so most of the people are still fleeing the war, and the names of the villages of people who are fleeing have not been disclosed for security reasons.
