Township Administration will Judge Drug Distributor and Users Arrested by PDF (Kalay) and Coalition Force
Drug distributors and sellers who were arrested by a coalition of PDF (Kalay), Kalay Police Service (KPS), Nat Myaung village defense and Nat Chaung village defense groups in Kalay township of Sagaing region will be judged by the township administration.
Four drug dealers who were distributing drugs in some villages within Kalay twonship and five users – 9 in total – were arrested and detained on February 12 of 2022 along with items of drugs.
“As the federal way has been chosen in accordance with the frameworks set by the NUG, there is the village people’s administration above village defense group. The township administration will be like the judge. Five persons will be convicted. The defense is no longer with administration. It will go under the people’s administration. Judiciary will be carried out jointly by the township people’s administration and village administration”, said a spokesperson of Nat Chaung village people’s defense group.
Nat Chaung village defense force has officially issued an announcement via the group’s Facebook page that drug distribution, use, gambling and drunkenness are strictly prohibited in the villages and arrests were made only after also posting warning letters on the ground.
There have been cases of stealing motorbikes and other issues and even though they were released with financial fines and pledges, the majority of drug users would commit stealing, robbing when they have run out of drugs. When they are hungry too much for drugs, they might even commit murders and if drugs were easily available, more youths could be destroyed; so they were arrested and detained in an attempt to prevent crimes.
“They will be judged according to the rules of Kalay Police Service (KPS), together with the township heads, according to the police principles, international principles and as there are also frameworks set by NUG. So the judging will be done depending on all these frameworks. So that their minds will change during the detainment. We have no plans to execute. We will instill in them a spirit of working for social activities, in construction works and the ability to work in partnerships. We plan to do these transformations. We plan on helping them get rid of these drugs off their minds once they return”, said an official from Local Defence Force (LDF-Kalay).
The details of those arrested and detained on drug distribution and selling have not been revealed and detention centers are systematically managed for the detainees.
