Six women have been killed by artillery strikes launched by the military junta in the first 18 days of this month, as of Tuesday.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) reported that a total of 12 people—six women and six men—were killed in junta artillery attacks, with their identities confirmed.
“Airstrikes and artillery attacks are unpredictable,” a local resistance fighter in Myaing Township told MPA.
“Resistance forces need to intensify public education on protective measures, and more bomb shelters are urgently needed.”
Among the casualties were two children under the age of 18. Shan State recorded the highest death toll, with four victims.
According to the AAPP, on Feb.12, junta forces and the junta-aligned Pa-O National Organization (PNO) militia fired heavy artillery from the west bank of Phekhone Town, targeting Taung Poet Kwe Village in Nyaungshwe Township, Southern Shan State. A shell struck a house in the village, killing two civilians instantly.
The military junta also launched a series of airstrikes on Feb.12, 13, and 14, targeting Monywa, Chaung-U, and Kalay Townships in Sagaing Region. These attacks killed around 20 civilians and caused extensive damage to schools, monasteries, and civilian homes.
Additionally, on Feb.13, junta airstrikes hit Peinhnekone and Kawkat villages in Kyaikhto Township, Mon State. The attacks killed three civilians, injured more than ten others, and damaged schools and monasteries, according to the AAPP.
