Ninety-nine girls under the age of 18 were killed in military junta attacks across Myanmar in 2024, according to a report released Thursday evening by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
The report also documented the deaths of 151 boys under 18, with all victims identified by name.
A political prisoner released from Pyi Prison in 2022 told MPA, “The military does not distinguish between children, adults, men, or women. They will kill anyone who opposes them. While people in urban areas are distressed over military conscription, the military continues to carry out airstrikes in civilian areas like Karenni State and the central regions.”
According to the AAPP report, Rakhine State recorded the highest number of child fatalities with 63 deaths, followed by 55 in Sagaing Region.
Of the total casualties, 131 were killed in airstrikes and 87 by artillery shelling.
The report also noted that the military junta arrested one 6-year-old girl and 10 boys under 18 in 2024.
