At least 57 women have been killed in military junta attacks within just over a month since the start of the year, according to a report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
The report documented a total of 125 deaths between Jan.1 and Feb.4, 2025, including 68 men. The majority of these fatalities—89 individuals—were caused by junta airstrikes, the AAPP stated.
A displaced woman from a village near Kan Ni Pyu in Magway Region’s Myaing Township told MPA, “We now have to stay constantly alert for airstrikes. People are afraid to gather, even when fleeing conflict. We take shelter in small groups in makeshift tents near farms. The military is increasingly targeting monasteries and schools.”
According to the AAPP report, 19 of the deceased were children under the age of 18.
The report also detailed a military airstrike on Tha Yet Kan Village in Pauk Township, Magway Region, around 12:35 p.m. on Saturday. The attack killed Ko Zaw Lin Soe, Ko Wet Gyi, and a pregnant woman named Ma Phyu.
Additionally, on the night of Jan.29 and the evening of Jan.31, the junta carried out airstrikes on Aung San Comprehensive University in Myaing Township.
The attack killed a female student from Gangaw Township who was attending the university and injured four civilians.
