An 18-year-old girl from Kyay Mon Village in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, was reportedly shot and killed by junta soldiers during an ambush patrol.
On Tuesday afternoon, a landmine struck a junta convoy traveling from the No. 33 Infantry Division in Sagaing Town to the North Western Command in Monywa City. Following the explosion, an ambush patrol unit of the military junta in Kyay Mon Village shot a young woman in the back of her head, according to Area-71 Force.
An official from Area-71 told MPA, “Junta troops deployed ambush patrols in Mon Yway and Kyay Mon Villages starting from 8:00 a.m. to cover the convoy. We notified the villagers about the attack we planned and urged them to flee for a moment. Some complied and some did not. After detonating our planted mine, both ambush patrols and the convoy attacked our troop who detonated the mines.”
The convoy, reportedly consisting of four armored vehicles, was attacked on the Chaung-U–Monywa Road with seven chain-reaction mines.
The official continued, “We detonated our mines when the second vehicle of the convoy passed by, and the mine hit the car in the front, causing it to stop. I guess they are transporting some important items because the ambushed patrols were in large numbers and deployed in almost every village beside the road.”
The casualties among junta troops due to the attack remain unknown. As of Tuesday evening, junta troops are still present in Kyay Mon Village.
