The Arakha Army (AA) announced effective action would be taken against its own soldiers and administrative officials who have been exploiting their authority to confiscate public property.
In the September 13 announcement, AA emphasized that it has clearly established the code of conduct for soldiers and military discipline to protect civilians’ lives and property during conflicts which have been instructed to its forces at various levels to ensure adherence.
“Apart from this recent announcement, there have been consistent actions against offenders. During this revolutionary period, it is essential to impose strict discipline on those who violate the rules. These measures should become a tradition,” said a Rakhine Literature figure to MPA.
According to reports from affected individuals and AA’s intelligence, many gold and silver items hidden by residents for safekeeping during conflicts, as well as larger items that could not be easily moved, were lost or stolen. AA stated that it has already taken action against those found guilty of looting and returned recovered items to their rightful owners with the ongoing investigations into remaining losses.
Additionally, it is also reported that AA soldiers discovered gold, silver, and jewelry hidden by church members at a Christian church in Ward 2, Kyeintali. AA returned all the discovered items to their rightful owners.
AA has urged civilians to report any missing valuables hidden at their homes to the relevant local administrative authorities of AA.
