Cooking oil prices are exceptionally high in all Yangon City townships, and people are experiencing cooking oil shortages, resulting in long lines of people queuing for cooking oil can be seen in every township. However, each person is only allowed to have one token.
Even though the State Administration Council (SAC) sets the reference price for cooking oil at over 6,000 Myanmar Kyat (MMK), the market price has risen to 18,000 MMK, more than three times of the reference price, and people must line up to obtain cooking oil.
People must queue to buy cooking oil in all of Yangon City’s townships, including Thaketa, Insein, Tamwe, South Okkalapa, and Thingangyun.
People in Yangon City have been encountering cooking oil shortages since September 2023, and the queue for cooking oil continues to this day.
