The National Unity Government (NUG) has reached out to the Czech Republic’s Foreign Minister for support in advancing Myanmar’s pro-democracy movement.
According to a Friday statement from the NUG Foreign Ministry, NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung met with her Czech counterpart, Jan Lipavský, on Thursday to discuss Myanmar’s political crisis and explore avenues for supporting the democracy movement.
A Yangon-based political columnist told MPA, “The NUG must continue to push for concrete assistance from countries that back the Spring Revolution. It’s also vital to highlight why the international community has so far failed to offer more meaningful support to Myanmar’s revolution.”
The columnist added that the NUG should work with both domestic and international experts who support the cause to develop practical solutions.
“The revolution has lasted more than four years. Why is the international response still largely limited to statements of support?” the columnist asked.
During the meeting, the Czech Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s strong solidarity with the people of Myanmar in their struggle for freedom and democracy, the NUG statement said.
The Czech Republic has been a consistent supporter of Myanmar’s democratic movement and has allowed the NUG to open a representative office in the country.
