The United Kingdom has increased its humanitarian aid to Myanmar by more than £20 million, according to a recent report.
For the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the UK has increased its humanitarian aid to Myanmar from the initially allocated £44 million to over £66 million. This announcement was made on March 18 by U Kyaw Zaw, spokesperson for the Presidential Office of the National Unity Government (NUG), during a press briefing.
U Kyaw Zaw also acknowledged the European Union’s (EU) decision to increase its humanitarian aid, pledging €76 million to support local communities, including the Rohingya, who have been affected by military violence and atrocities. The aid will also benefit both Myanmar and Bangladesh.
In February 2025, the NUG Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Management provided over 500 million kyats in humanitarian aid to those in need.
“The assistance includes emergency humanitarian aid for approximately 50,000 internally displaced persons, the families of 200 deceased individuals, over 500 injured people, civil disobedience movement (CDM) staff, prisoners, and their families,” said U Kyaw Zaw.
He also expressed deep respect for the resilience of revolutionaries who, despite immense hardships, continue to fight and support the movement.
U Kyaw Zaw reaffirmed the NUG’s commitment to standing with the people until the revolution achieves its ultimate success, vowing to continue efforts toward unity and the complete eradication of military dictatorship.
