Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun, stated that the military junta is being defeated due to the unwavering resistance of the civilian population.
Speaking at a discussion on Myanmar’s challenges and opportunities hosted by the Asia Society on Thursday, he reiterated this stance, according to an announcement from the National Unity Government (NUG)’s Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday.
“Our revolution is built brick by brick. Yet, our revolutionary armed forces and ethnic armed groups have successfully taken control of more than 50% of Myanmar’s territory,” U Kyaw Moe Tun said.
He emphasized the crucial role civilians play in the Spring Revolution, highlighting the involvement of youth and the supportive power of social media and technology in driving the movement forward.
“Inclusive participation, continued support, and resilience from civilians are still essential. That’s why I urge everyone to stay involved and support the revolution in any way possible. I firmly believe that if we resist together, we will achieve victory,” he added.
He also stressed that the Spring Revolution continues to rely heavily on support from the international community.
The discussion featured Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun, along with NUG’s Interim Central Bank Special Advisor, Sean Turnell, and Asia Society’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Debra Eisenman, who participated in person. Retired U.S. diplomat Priscilla Clapp joined the event online.
