On March 3, the All Burma Youth Poets’ Union (ABYPU) held a ceremony to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the passing of poet K Za Win.
The commemoration ceremony marking the anniversary of poet K Za Win’s death was held at the Ba La Ka Tha office on March 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event included a moment of silence in honor of K Za Win and the martyred heroes of the Spring Revolution, the reading of a fourth-anniversary commemoration message, a recording of K Za Win reciting his “Order Poem” while imprisoned in Letpadan, commemorative speeches, and poetry recitations—both his own works and memorial poems—according to a statement from the All Burma Youth Poets’ Union (Ba La Ka Tha).
“The focus is on Ko K Za. This is a way to remember and honor him, as he made sacrifices during the Spring Revolution,” said poet Ye Yint Linka, chairman of the All Burma Youth Poets’ Union (Ba La Ka Tha), in a statement to MPA.
Poet K Za Win was killed on March 3, 2021, in Monywa by gunfire from military council troops. He was an outspoken advocate who actively participated in the Letpadan Mountain issue and played a key role in the 2015 Democracy Education Strike Long March protest, during which he was arrested in Letpadan.
During the military coup, he continued his resistance by leading anti-dictatorship demonstrations in Monywa. He remained committed to his responsibilities as a revolutionary poet and a member of Ba La Ka Tha.
In a statement, Ba La Ka Tha reaffirmed that K Za Win will be remembered in Myanmar’s history as a revolutionary poet. The organization also pledged to continue the fight for the unfinished Spring Revolution and the eradication of the “three military evils.”
To mark the fourth anniversary of his death, Ba La Ka Tha donated meals for a day to the Middle Land Region guerrilla forces in his honor.
