Discussions and drafting are in progress for federal transitional arrangements aimed at establishing an effective federal democratic union in the future, according to the National Unity Government (NUG).
Speaking at the National Unity Government’s (NUG) public and international briefing on Tuesday, U Kyaw Zaw, spokesperson for the NUG President’s Office, announced ongoing efforts to prepare for Myanmar’s transition to a federal democratic union.
“As the Spring Revolution gains momentum and achieves successes, revolutionary forces and the National Unity Government are actively engaging in discussions and coordination to plan for the transition period,” he stated.
He emphasized that an agreement has been reached to begin establishing a federal system during the revolutionary or interim period, following a Bottom-Up Federalism Approach that prioritizes strengthening individual states.
“The fundamental principles and concepts for drafting the transitional constitution have already been agreed upon, along with key ideas to be incorporated into the document,” he added.
On February 3, the NUG, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and five revolutionary organizations issued a joint statement affirming their commitment to rebuilding the nation through a ‘Strengthening States to Strengthening Union’ approach.
Nine ethnic revolutionary organizations, including the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the Karen National Union (KNU), and the Chin National Front (CNF), endorsed the statement on February 12.
