Junta forces carried out a nighttime raid in a secluded area of Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon, arresting individuals for failing to register overnight guests, according to a report by the Rangoon Scout Network.
Junta soldiers and ward administration officials entered Park 16 Street in Ward O/14 of Shwe Pyi Thar Township around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday to conduct overnight guest registration checks.
“They raided not only Park 16 but also nearby streets. I heard about five or six people were arrested for not registering. It’s unclear if they’ve been released yet. The area is quite secluded with many squatters, so people usually avoid going there at night,” a resident told MPA.
According to the Rangoon Scout Network, the military blocked both ends of the street, forced residents out of their homes, and conducted inspections. Individuals without overnight guest registration or those missing registration books were taken away in a vehicle.
“It’s true they checked guest registrations, but I’m not sure exactly how many were arrested,” another resident said.
During the raid, soldiers also verbally abused and threatened ward administration officials.
Park 16 Street is located between Aung Myittar Street and Aung Chan Thar Street, near Lein Kone Creek.
