Reports indicate that political prisoners who had been transferred from Insein Prison to Thayarwaddy Prison, were unjustly beaten and tortured by prison authorities
Political prisoners were beaten at the entrances of the Prison with more than 40 sustaining injuries to their heads and other body parts. Moreover, among the transferred political prisoners, more than 10 whom they had blacklisted were beaten and locked up in the cells with their feet shackled, according to the report issued by Political Prisoners Network Myanmar, PPNM on today’s date, August 19.
“They have blacklisted political prisoners who participated in prison strikes and stood firmly against the oppression of prison authorities,” Ko Thike Htun Oo, a steering committee member of PPNM, told MPA.
A 50-year-old Prison corporal named Soe Min from Thayarwaddy Prison, was one of the main individuals involved in the unjust beatings of political prisoners.
On July 21, about 300 prisoners, including the majority of political prisoners from Insein Prison, were transferred to Thayarwaddy Prison, according to PPNM.
