It is said that the State Administration Council (SAC) is asking people who don’t want to serve in their military to pay 3,000,000 Myanmar Kyat (MMK).
According to the locals, starting from 16 August, SAC’s army set the price for avoiding serving in the military as 3,000,000 MMK in Western townships of Bago region.
“Currently, it costs 3,000,000 MMK. It costed 500,000 MMK before. If you don’t want to serve in the military, you pay. If you don’t have money, follow wherever they take,” a person closely related to Paungde township administration said.
It is said that 2 youths from Hinthakan ward of Paungde township and Htamakauk ward of Pyay city had to pay 3,000,000 MMK to avoid military service.
A person closely related to Paungde township administration said that people who paid 3,000,000 MMK are currently free from military service but nobody knows how long they will be free from military service.
People from villages of Western townships of Bago region including Thayarwaddy, Letpadan, Moenyo, Gyobingauk, Zeekone, Natalin, Paungde, Shwetaung, Pyay, Thaekone, Paukkhaung and Pantaung townships, who were in the list of military service and don’t want to serve have to pay 3,000,000 MMK per person.
