The People’s Defense Forces (PDF) launched a raid on a military base in Ta Loke Town, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, killing nearly 25 junta soldiers in a coordinated assault.
The assault targeted junta troops stationed at a gate on the southern edge of Ta Loke Town and inside two civilian homes around 5 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Ta Loke People’s Defense Force (PDF).
Ko Sein Maung, commander of the Ta Loke PDF, told MPA, “The junta forces were mainly concentrated in those three locations. The battle was intense and lasted until around 11 a.m. If air support hadn’t arrived, our operations would have proceeded as planned. However, the intervention of aircraft and other factors caused delays, and we were forced to retreat due to a shortage of ammunition.”
The military launched airstrikes twice using jet fighters and three times with Mi-35 helicopters during the battle.
“We also had to block ground reinforcements while coordinating with allied forces. It was a challenge to prevent their advance,” the source added.
At least 15 junta soldiers were reportedly injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, military airstrikes killed one local woman, severely injured five others, and damaged several homes.
“Most civilians fled during the fighting. Some left their homes in fear, while others were unable to escape in time. The majority chose to flee,” the source said.
Following the battle, junta troops reportedly set fire to and destroyed several homes, forcing more residents to seek refuge.
MPA could not independently verify the number of junta casualties.
