Fierce battles have erupted between the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and junta troops in Tanintharyi and Myeik townships, with escalating violence reported in multiple areas.
In Tanintharyi Township, the military launched operations near the Mawdaung Border Town, sparking a month-long clash with the PDF near Thein Khun Village. Meanwhile, junta supply convoys were intercepted in the Ban La Mut Village area, according to sources from Myeik District Battalion 2.
A source from Myeik District Battalion 2 told MPA, “The military is advancing offensively, with intense fighting in Thein Khun. At the same time, supply convoys are being intercepted near Ban La Mut Village. In Myeik Township, only small-scale mine attacks have been carried out.”
Reports suggest that junta troops have been arbitrarily arresting civilians, forcing them into porter duties, and burning down homes in areas where they are operating.
Additionally, the military has reportedly been using civilian vehicles traveling along the Myeik-Tanintharyi Union Highway as shields, gaining tactical advantages to support their troops near Thein Khun Village.
In response, the Southern Military Region (Tanintharyi) Strategic Office 35 announced on Thursday that travel on the Union Highway is restricted until further notice to ensure civilian safety amid ongoing clashes. Updates will be provided when it is deemed safe to resume travel.
