Three junta soldiers were shot and killed by local resistance forces as they attempted to close the gate of a security post in Ywarthargyi Rural Zone, Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, according to the Kyaung Lat Thae Group, a revolutionary force operating in the Ywarthargyi Village-tract.
The defense forces launched a sudden attack on the junta soldiers on Sunday evening. These soldiers were closing a checkpoint gate near the crossroads to Ywartaw about 250 meters from the military stationed camp in Ywarthargyi Rural Zone, Wetlet Township.
An officer from Kyaung Lat Thae, Ko Fatty told MPA, “While two soldiers came to close the gate, another soldier was stationed on the nearby building to provide cover. We had been observing them for about a week, and yesterday was the right moment to act. We shot the two who were closing the gate, and when they went down, the soldier on the building fired back at us. We then took him out with a sniper shot.”
Following the ambush, five reinforcement soldiers arrived and counterattacked with small and heavy weapons. This led to a skirmish that lasted about an hour.
“Of the three killed, two fell on the ground instantly, and the third, positioned in the building, shook his hands when we fired the first shot. We also killed him in the second shot. They took the bodies of the two on the road, but we’re unsure about the third,” the source added.
The Kyaung Lat Thae (Ywarthargyi Rural Zone People’s Defense Team), Mee Tauk Local PDF, and Tway Ma Shaung (Local PDF) jointly conducted this attack. The resistance fighters reportedly withdrew safely without casualties.
MPA could not independently verify the casualties of the junta soldiers.
