Two women were killed when the military junta launched an airstrike on Hlyaw Hpyu Kone village in Sagaing Region’s Kawlin Township on Friday afternoon.
According to local sources, two 500-pound bombs dropped from a jet exploded in the village around 3:30 p.m., killing a 56-year-old internally displaced woman and a local resident.
“Auntie was torn apart—she was lying face down,” a villager told MPA.
“The other woman had her stomach ripped open, with her lungs coming out. She died while receiving treatment.”
The woman who died instantly had fled from Pin Oo Lwin Ward in Kawlin town to seek shelter in Hlyaw Hpyu Kone. The second victim, who succumbed to her injuries later, was identified as Daw Mae Nyo, a local resident.
The house where the displaced woman was staying was destroyed in the blast, and nearby homes also sustained damage.
The same day, at around 3:40 a.m., junta forces carried out another airstrike near Kachin Kone village in Kawlin Township. A day earlier, a separate airstrike on Inn Pin Hla village killed a 14-year-old displaced girl.
