The Myanmar military junta is forcibly entering homes across the Yangon Region, arresting young people eligible for military service and sending them to training depots against their will.
With the commencement of the military’s 10th training batch on Feb.17, over 500 individuals were forcibly conscripted and transported to military training schools in Taik Gyi and Hlegu townships.
According to the Rangoon Scout Network, the majority of these recruits were taken directly from their homes during targeted raids.
“Most of the forced conscripts were taken from their homes based on the list of military services, though the details of many cases remain unknown,” a member of the Rangoon Scout Network told MPA.
In addition to home raids, junta troops are also conducting street arrests and detaining drug users to forcibly recruit them into the military.
Reports indicate that forced conscription is taking place not only in Yangon’s suburban townships but also in busy urban areas like Tamwe and Mingala Taung Nyunt.
“They mainly operate at night. When the lights go out and the streets are dark, that’s when they are most active,” the source added.
According to the Rangoon Scout Network, junta forces in Yangon Region detained 106 individuals in random street arrests, 63 following guest list registration checks, and 59 based on specific intelligence in February alone. Another five were taken into custody under unclear circumstances.
