Junta forces in Yangon arrested at least 233 civilians in February, mostly in public areas, according to the Rangoon Scout Network.
Among the 233 detainees, 54 have been released, while eight remain in custody. The status of the remaining 171 individuals is unclear. Most of the arrests took place randomly on the streets.
A representative from the Rangoon Scout Network told MPA, “Street arrests are primarily for military conscription. If you can pay immediately, you can often secure release. The demanded amounts typically range from 1 million to 4 million kyats.”
According to the Rangoon Scout Network, junta forces detained 106 individuals in random street arrests, 63 following guest list registration checks, and 59 based on specific intelligence. Another five were taken into custody under unclear circumstances.
“Guest list checks are part of their routine operations. They arrest unregistered individuals and make arbitrary arrests if they receive any information,” the source added.
“Many detainees were released after paying a fine of around 100,000 kyats.”
Additionally, junta forces arrested three youths on accusations of involvement in military or protest activities. Five others were detained for allegedly playing revolutionary singer Lin Lin’s song Yaung Ni on the streets.
