The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked seven junta checkpoints along the old Yangon-Mandalay Highway, killing eight junta soldiers and injuring two others, the National Unity Government’s (NUG) Ministry of Defense reported.
The assaults took place in Kyauktaga and Phyu townships, Bago Region, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
An adjutant officer, Hman Gyi, from the Spring Warrior Column, explained, “We participated in Tuesday’s attack, targeting five checkpoints along the old road bridge from milepost 145 to 149. These checkpoints were used to secure their supply routes, particularly the railway bridge checkpoint. When we launched our attack, the junta forces fled.”
During the clashes, one resistance fighter lost his life.
The operation was carried out by joint resistance forces, including Resistance Battalions 3702 and 3502, Spring Warrior Column, Ar Lar Waka Column (7803), Ayeyarwady Column (6002), and Sit Taung Column, all under the People’s Defense Force (PDF) Southern Military Region, Sub-region 2.
The attack also involved Yangon and Phyu People’s Defense Teams and nine battalions from the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
The MoD under the NUG has urged civilians to avoid military troops and checkpoints, as resistance forces plan to escalate operations.
MPA could not independently verify the number of casualties among junta forces.
