A total of 43 civilians lost their lives in airstrikes carried out by the military junta in the first 20 days of February 2025.
The victims included 17 women and 26 men, according to a report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
A former teacher involved in the Anti-Junta Civil Disobedience Movement and seeking refuge in Myaing Township told MPA, “Civilians have become more aware of airstrikes due to ongoing attacks. However, not every village has bomb shelters. Building them is costly, making it difficult for people to afford. If organizations could collaborate to construct shelters in frequently targeted areas, it would be a great help.”
According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), six of the airstrike victims were children under 18, with the highest number of fatalities—17—recorded in Sagaing Region. The AAPP also reported that junta attacks killed 33 civilians in Sagaing Region between Jan.1 and Fe.19, 2025.
On Monday around 10 p.m., the military junta launched an airstrike on Tu Ywin Boet Village in Mandalay Region’s Myingyan District. The attack killed three civilians—U Ngwe Thaung, Daw Jan Sein, and Daw Phyu Thi—due to bomb shrapnel. Another elderly woman succumbed to heavy bleeding from bomb fragments, bringing the total death toll to four.
In another incident on Wednesday evening, a resident of Paukkhaung reported that the military junta deployed a paramotor to bomb Aing Zauk Village in Bago Region’s Paukkhaung Township. The attack killed one woman and injured two others, including a 10-year-old child.
Additionally, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported that a military jet fighter carried out an airstrike on Nawnghkio Town the same day, resulting in three civilian deaths and four injuries.
