Junta troops stationed at Kin Mun Village in Chaung-U Township fired a 120mm heavy weapon around 10:46 a.m. on Wednesday, striking a monastery sheltering internally displaced persons (IDPs) and causing casualties, according to the Chaung-U Township People’s Defense Force (CHUPDF).
“The artillery shell hit the monastery where IDPs had taken refuge,” a CHUPDF information and communications officer told MPA.
“The junta has been firing heavy weapons continuously, so we don’t know how many rounds were launched.”
For security reasons, details about the monastery and the origins of the IDPs were not disclosed.
