The Arakan Army (AA) has seized control of three military camps located in the Rakhine Mountain Ranges and Ayeyarwady Region, according to a report released by the AA on Monday evening.
The AA launched a fierce five-day assault on the Moe Hti Taung military camp, located in the Rakhine Mountain Range near the border of Rakhine State and Bago Region, beginning at 6:30 a.m. on Jan.21. The camp was fully captured by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
A source from the junta’s side in Pyay confirmed to MPA, “Moe Hti Taung was under the command of No. 5 Military Operations Command Commander Brigadier General Kaung Myat, who fled from Toungup. It remains unclear whether he was captured, escaped, or even promoted after the incident. Defensive reinforcements are reportedly being prepared in Nyaung Kyoe.”
The AA reportedly seized military supplies, ammunition, and several bodies from the Moe Hti Taung camp.
In addition to Moe Hti Taung, the AA captured two other junta outposts near the Rakhine-Ayeyarwady border. Point 263 was taken on January 26, while Point 369 fell on January 21.
In an effort to reclaim Point 263, the military launched an airstrike and heavy artillery bombardment in the Ayeyarwady Region around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, sparking intense fighting.
On the same day, a 30-minute clash broke out between junta forces and the AA near Goke See Yoe Village in Magway Region’s Ngape Township, along the Ann-Pa Dan road. Following the skirmish, the junta forces retreated toward Goke See Yoe Village. The AA pursued the fleeing troops, reportedly seizing additional bodies and ammunition.
According to updates from the AA, daily clashes between their forces and junta troops have been ongoing near Sittwe, the capital of Rakhine State, involving artillery fire, sniper attacks, and drone strikes.
