An airstrike by Myanmar’s military junta in Mandalay Region’s Myingyan Township killed 17 people, including civilians and People’s Defense Force (PDF) resistance fighters.
A military jet fighter dropped two bombs on Sin Gut Village along the Ta Loke–Si Mee Khon road around 8 a.m. on Sunday, followed by an attack from a Mi-35 helicopter, according to a local resistance fighter.
The source told MPA, “About 17 people died. First, two bombs were dropped. Then, they attacked with the Mi-35. Villagers had taken shelter inside the school as their homes were burned, or they had nowhere else to go. I think some resistance fighters were also inside the school.”
The attack injured many people and caused extensive damage to the school buildings.
“The bombs hit right in the middle of the two school buildings,” the source added. “Some victims were found with parts of their bodies on top of the school buildings. Some bodies were so disfigured they were unrecognizable. Some injured people are in critical condition. It’s difficult to confirm the situation in detail at this point.”
The injured are reportedly receiving medical treatment.
