The military junta launched a drone strike on Laiza, the stronghold of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), on Friday afternoon.
The attack targeted Myitkyina Hotel in Ward Four, central Laiza Town, Kachin State, around 2:45 p.m., without any prior clashes reported.
A resident of Laiza Town told MPA, “At first, an aircraft was circling overhead. Then, a drone dropped a bomb on the Myitkyina Hotel. The top floor, including the water tank and roof, was damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured. Behind the hotel is Alen Bum Mountain, which has frequently been shelled in the past. However, this is the first time the hotel itself has been targeted.”
A 25-year-old woman from Laiza Town noted that this marks the first time the military junta has used drones to attack Laiza. Previously, on Oct.9, 2023, the junta carried out an airstrike near Laiza Town, targeting the Mung Lai Hkyet IDP camp. That attack killed 29 civilians, including a two-year-old child, and injured more than 60 others.
