The military junta is reportedly compiling lists of women eligible for military service in several townships across the Yangon Region, raising concerns among residents.
The Rangoon Scout Network has reported that the military junta has recently begun compiling lists of women aged 18 to 27 who are eligible for military service in Kyauktan, Thanlyin, Thaketa, and Tamwe Townships.
A police source based in Yangon told MPA, “No official directives regarding female military service have been announced in Yangon so far. However, the military is facing heavy casualties and expanding conflict zones. Under these circumstances, they may soon implement female military service, deploying men to the frontlines while assigning women to backline roles.”
According to the Rangoon Scout Network, lists of women were collected on Friday in Shwe Kone Ward of Kyauktan Township and Bochauke Ward of Thanlyin Township. Similar collection efforts were reported in Lay Taung Ward of Thaketa Township and along Maggin Road in Tamwe Township.
In a related incident, the Mon State People Defense Team (Pa Ka Pha – Mon) revealed that in the last week of December 2024, five women arrested during guest registration inspections in Thaton Town, Mon State, were sent to No. 9 Training Camp in Thaton Township, where military training is currently underway.
The Rangoon Scout Network is a Spring Revolution social media platform that focuses on gathering and reporting on-ground news and significant events related to the activities of the military junta within Yangon Region.
