Fighting has intensified in Bhamo Township, Kachin State, with junta forces deploying airstrikes on Friday morning to support ground operations.
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and its allied forces launched an intensified offensive on Friday morning, resulting in a fierce exchange of fire with junta troops, according to local sources.
A source told MPA, “The clashes had subsided for a few days, but the KIA resumed their attack early on Friday. This isn’t a minor skirmish; the fighting is intense. As expected, the military responded with relentless airstrikes.”
The airstrikes reportedly targeted the Shwe Kyi Nar and Nawng Kho wards in Banmaw, escalating tensions in the area.
Some local men have remained in town, reportedly acting as house guards to protect their properties amid the conflict.
The KIA and its allied forces launched an operation to seize Bhamo and Mansi towns on Dec. 4, 2024. They successfully took control of Mansi Township on January 8, 2025.
