An airstrike by the military junta hit a tea shop in Naung Hkio Town, Northern Shan State, killing eight civilians. The attack, reportedly carried out by fighter jets, has drawn widespread condemnation.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) announced that two bombs were dropped by military fighter jets in Naung Hkio Township. One struck the Naung Hkio Township Police Station, while the other hit the Parami Tea Shop, leaving one civilian injured and causing significant damage to two houses and the police station.
A resistance fighter from the Shan-Man area (Northern Shan State and Mandalay) told MPA, “For two consecutive days, civilians have been subjected to aerial bombings. A bomb hit the tea shop near the police station. Both the shop owner and the patrons were killed instantly. Only one person was fortunate enough to escape unharmed.”
In addition to the airstrikes, the military junta reportedly conducted artillery shelling targeting Naung Hkio Town, further escalating the situation.
“This is a terrifying display of vengeance by the junta,” the resistance fighter added. “They are making life unbearable for civilians. It also seems they are dreaming of retaking control of Naung Hkio Town.”
Among the victims of the airstrike at the tea shop were three women and five men.
TNLA further reported that the military junta carried out another airstrike near the Naung Hkio Township General Administration Office and the Municipal Office using jet fighters. This attack resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to two others.
