An airstrike by the military junta on Nawnghkio Town in northern Shan State has reportedly killed one woman and left two others injured, according to local sources.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) reported that a military junta aircraft dropped two bombs near the General Administration Office and Municipal Office in Nawnghkio around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The attack damaged a residential house and the municipal office.
According to a resistance fighter based in northern Shan State, “A young woman died instantly, and one person was injured. The bombs were reportedly very powerful, and the explosions were deafening.”
The airstrike also caused several local houses to catch fire. These fires were extinguished through the combined efforts of the TNLA fire department and local residents.
In a statement issued on January 12 to mark the 62nd Ta’ang National Revolution Day, the TNLA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with other revolutionary forces across Myanmar to dismantle the military junta entirely. The TNLA is currently engaged in combat with junta forces in Taung Hkam Village, Naung Hkio Township.
The TNLA also reported that a military jet fighter bombed an area near a tour inspection gate in Pangpauk Village, Kyaukme Township, even though no active clashes were taking place at the time.
Nawnghkio was captured by the TNLA and its allied forces on July 10, 2024. Since then, the TNLA has been administering the area.
