An airstrike by the military junta near Yam Chaung Creek in Mrauk-U Township, Rakhine State, struck a site housing families of prisoners of war (POWs), leaving 28 people dead, including women and children.
The Arakan Army (AA) announced on Sunday evening that the military junta carried out three bombing runs shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, using jet fighters to target a temporary detention site where the AA was holding POWs and their families. Some of the detainees were reportedly scheduled for release.
A Rakhine writer told MPA, “Min Aung Hlaing spares no one—civilians, POWs, women, and children—demonstrating his relentless commitment to indiscriminate killing. While the international community remains silent, we are left with no choice but to intensify efforts to overthrow the military junta.”
The attack reportedly killed 28 people and injured 25 others, some of whom required emergency medical treatment.
This is not an isolated incident. On Jan.11, the military launched airstrikes on populated areas in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, hitting residential wards and markets. Earlier, on Jan.8, 2025, the junta bombed Kyauk Ni Maw Village in Ramree Township, killing 26 civilians and injuring 27 others.
The AA has maintained control over Kyauktaw Township since Feb.7, 2024, consolidating authority over 14 townships in Rakhine State, including Kyauktaw.
