Airstrikes carried out by Myanmar’s military junta resulted in the deaths of 40 civilians between November 1 and 28, according to a recent report by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
The report highlights that the casualties included 20 women and 14 children under the age of 18. Rakhine State suffered the heaviest toll, with 19 fatalities recorded.
A Yangon-based political columnist told MPA, “The military is targeting civilians with airstrikes, their main advantage in combat. For instance, they attack civilians in towns controlled by the Three Brotherhood Alliance. The military keeps targeting civilians because they don’t feel accountable to anyone. China has been bolstering the military to kill Myanmar citizens. The international community is nothing but a paper tiger, enabling Min Aung Hlaing to kill as he pleases.”
The AAPP also reported that 14 victims—5 women and 9 men—were confirmed dead in artillery shelling by the military, with their identities verified by name.
On Sunday, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army reported that a military-fired artillery shell struck a monk in Inn Waing village, Nawnghkio Township, and injured two civilians.
Additionally, on November 22, the military dropped two 300-pound bombs on the market area in Nawnghkio Township, injuring six residents, including an eight-year-old child.
