Since the military coup in Myanmar, more than 670 children under the age of 18 have reportedly lost their lives due to the junta’s brutal actions, highlighting the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict.
The report of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) stated that approximately 671 children under 18 were killed between 1 Feb 2021, and today due to the actions of the military junta they were identified by name.
A Yangon-based political analyst told MPA,“For the junta, there are no distinctions between children, women, or the elderly. They are indifferent to the loss of lives as long as their grip on power remains unchallenged. What is truly shameful is that the United Nations, despite possessing concrete evidence of these horrifying war crimes, continues to feign ignorance.”
According to the AAPP, the fatalities include 101 children in 2021, 136 in 2022, 208 in 2023, and 226 children up to today.
The military junta bombed no.4 Ward in Kutkai Town on the night of Sunday at around 11:47 pm. The airstrike killed two women and an infant and left 13 others injured.
Similarly, on Friday, in Momauk Township, Kachin State the junta bombed Konelaw Village. The bomb exploded near a Christian church, killing two displaced individuals a husband and wife and seven children, according to reports.
