The Secretary-1 of the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), assured that the formation of the Kayan National Army in Karenni State poses no risk to unity or to the collective struggle against dictatorship, emphasizing its alignment with broader resistance efforts.
U Aung San Myint made this statement in response to questions from reporters during a joint press conference with the National Unity Government (NUG), Karen National Union (KNU), KNPP, and Chin National Front (CNF) on Tuesday.
“No conflicts or clashes reside between armed groups in our state. We are united in the fight against military dictatorship. While we may have some differences in implementing operations, this formation doesn’t endanger unity or anti-dictatorship efforts; we are all fighting together,” he added.
Khun Than Tet, chairman of the Kayan State Constitution Drafting Committee, discussed their ongoing efforts to establish Kayan State at a press conference held on September 30.
“We’re not against the term Karenni. However, our efforts to establish Kayan State shouldn’t be opposed either,” he said.
U Aung San Myint, KNPP’s secretary-1, also emphasized the importance of unity among all revolutionary groups in the fight against dictatorship.
“Each group’s processes may vary in nurturing a federal democracy in the future. After the fall of the dictatorship, nationwide dialogues, such as a National Dialogue or Federal Conference, could take place, as well as a State Conference within Kayah for political discussions,” said U Aung San Myint.
The Kayan National Army (KNA) was formed on October 29.
The Kayan New Land Party is actively fighting against the dictatorship, stated Khun Than Tet, Chairman of the Kayan State Constitution Drafting Committee and Vice-Chair of the Party.
