A junta airstrike targeted an IDP camp in Myaing Township, Magway Region, prompting displaced residents to flee once again, according to local sources.
An MI-35 helicopter fired rockets and machine guns at the camp on Saturday. The entire camp, housing displaced people from Ma Gyi Lay Pin Village, had to relocate following the attack, as reported by the Myaing People’s Defense Team.
“We have provided essential food supplies for the new location. We also assist in transporting people with poor health to safe areas for medical care. With the onset of winter, blankets, warm clothing, and shelter materials are in need,” an official from the Myaing Defense Team told MPA.
The exact location of the new camp remains undisclosed for security reasons.
About 130 households (over 300 people) from Ma Gyi Lay Pin Village have been displaced since early 2022 due to threats from military-aligned forces in Kan Ni Pyu village.
“Children are currently attending the National Unity Government’s interim schools, but we’ll need to find solutions to support their education since the new location is far from the schools,” the official added.
The airstrike injured two defense fighters and three civilians, with one fighter’s condition reportedly critical and under observation.
