A Myanmar junta airstrike on a detention facility killed 12 people, including eight soldiers captured during recent clashes with resistance forces.
Approximately 60 others were injured.
The military conducted two airstrikes at around 6:30 PM on October 28, targeting the MDY PDF’s facility holding enemy prisoners of war, according to the report of the People’s Defense Force (Mandalay) released today (October 29).
“Yesterday’s airstrike killed eight enemy prisoners and four suspected individuals still under interrogation. Most of the injured are also prisoners of war,” said MDY-PDF spokesperson Ko Asmond to MPA.
The MDY-PDF stated that despite securely holding prisoners of war in accordance with the Detainee Act, the junta specifically targeted former members of their group with the airstrike.
“It seems that the military intentionally targeted the location, knowing it was where we held prisoners of war,” said Ko Asmond.
The MDY-PDF added that the injured prisoners of war are currently receiving medical treatment.
