An airstrike carried out by the State Administration Council (SAC) Army on Tin Taing Yan Village, located in the western part of Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region, resulted in the deaths of three people, including two young children, local sources confirmed.
The attack occurred around 4:30 PM today (8 October), when a MiG-29 fighter jet from the Meiktila Air Base dropped a bomb near the market area of Tin Taing Yan Village, according to Ko Htun Khant Zaw (Ah May Thar), a spokesperson for the People Defence Comrade group based in Ye-U Township.
“Only one bomb was dropped, likely a 500-pound bomb. A six-month-old infant, a two-year-old child, and their mother were among the victims. A total of three people were killed, and two others were injured. Those injured are currently receiving medical treatment,” Ko Htun Khant Zaw told MPA.
In addition to the casualties, several houses were damaged, although the exact number of destroyed buildings remains unclear, he added.
“The residents of Tin Taing Yan Village have been living in fear of airstrikes for no apparent reason. During the day, they briefly return to their homes but leave at night for safety. The bomb was dropped just as people were about to leave again in the evening, which is why these deaths occurred,” he explained.
Just days earlier, on 5 October, SAC Army also launched an airstrike near the same market area of Tin Taing Yan Village, targeting a hilltop of the pagoda compound with a 500-pound bomb. That attack resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to another.
Since then, thousands of villagers from Tin Taing Yan have fled their homes, fearing further airstrikes from SAC.
