The military junta’s proposal to resolve the political crisis through political means poses no impact on the resistance forces, not only in Myingyan District but nationwide, according to a representative of the Myingyan District People’s Defense Team.
On the evening of September 26, the military council made an offer, calling for ethnic armed groups and PDFs to disarm and support upcoming elections, prompting the representative to remark.
“If the criminal military abolishes the 2008 constitution, relinquishes its roles in politics, and agrees to face justice for its war crimes, then we can talk about negotiations,” the source mentioned.
The junta’s statement would not influence PDF brigades and battalions, which remain committed to fighting until the military dictatorship is completely eradicated, according to Ko Thagyar from Myingyan District Battalion-2.
“As long as the junta refuses to dismantle its authoritarian regime, we will continue to fight. There’s no obligation on our part to follow any of their statements,” the source stated.
The information officer from Myingyan District Battalion 4, Bo Gyi Aung Maung noted that political negotiations are for the National Unity Government (NUG) rather than PDF forces, questioning the genuineness of the peace rhetoric of the junta that has been targeting ongoing aerial attacks on civilian areas.
“Ceasefire belongs to the legitimate government NUG. We will continue fighting as long as the people demand it. Even if NUG calls for a ceasefire, it won’t happen unless these war criminals are held accountable,” the source said.
Despite the junta verbally offering peace talks, they continue to carry out airstrikes on monasteries and civilian areas within Myingyan District, the source added.
