The State Administration Council set fire to Mote See village in Ye-U Township, Sagaing Region, this afternoon without any apparent reason, according to local reports.
At approximately 11:30 AM today (26 September), a column of SAC Army consisting of 120 soldiers charged from the Giwarpan gate in Ye-U Town. At around 1:30 PM, they reached Mokesi Village and set it on fire without provocation. Since soldiers are still present in the village, the extent of the damage remains unknown, according to the People’s Defense Team – Ye-U Township (Pa Ka Pha-Ye-U).
“There was no battle. They just burned the village. We can only confirm the extent of the destruction once the troops leave. Right now, we are just observing from a distance. We cannot get too close,” the leader of Ye-U Township Pa Ka Pha told MPA.
As of 3:30 PM today, some of the troops have returned to Ye-U Town, while a small number remain in the village, he added.
“We are still preparing to confront them. They burned the village and then withdrew. Around 30 to 40 soldiers remain in the village. It seems like they are waiting for our approach. The Mi-35 and Mi-17 helicopters have also been circling the village,” he said.
Residents from Mokesi Village and nearby Nyot Tone village have fled to safer areas due to the presence of the column of SAC Army, according to local sources.
