The National Unity Government’s (NUG) Tanintharyi Military Operations Command has announced plans to escalate military operations in Palaw, Myeik, and Tanintharyi Townships in response to the military junta’s attacks targeting civilians.
On September 16, the resistance battalions and allied military columns under the command of the strategic region-35, NUG’s Military Region (Tanintharyi), declared that the military actions in these three townships were to be intensified, focusing on neutralizing the junta’s military and administrative targets.
“The military is primarily targeting civilians now. They are burning IDP camps, attacking civilian homes with drones, and destroying solar power plants built for village electrification. In conflict areas, they are forcibly drafting local men into the military. As the situation worsens, we have no choice but to escalate military actions. We can’t reveal more details due to security concerns,” Yebaw Kyaw Htin Aung, Deputy Commander of the Operation, Military Region Tanintharyi told MPA.
To prevent junta forces from disguising themselves as civilians and freely moving around, civilians are urged to travel only between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with additional warnings for passenger vehicles to drive with windows open and for cargo trucks to avoid covering loads while traveling on the following road: the Union Highway section in Palaw Township, from Kyaukphyu Mountain Junction on the outskirts of Myeik, Tharame, Ingamaw, and along the Kyaynantine Road in Myeik Township and the Union Highway in Tanintharyi Township.
