Artillery strikes could be launched at Myaing, Magway Region, according to reports.
Local defense forces are now able to surround the town with checkpoints set and could launch artillery strikes at any moment. Despite the capability to fire at the town, defense forces are holding back in considering civilian safety, according to the Mying People’s Defense Team (Pakapha).
“We are in a position where we could strike at any time. However, we are holding back due to fears of harming civilians in the town. But, most civilians have already left the area and fled to nearby locations,” said Mying People’s Defense Team leader Bo Lekkyar to MPA.
Bo Lekkyar also stated that they plan to strike whenever military concentrations are in the town.
On September 10, Mying People’s Defense Team attacked a three-story RC building housing junta troops in Mying using improvised artillery, reportedly killing one soldier and injuring two others.
“We fired from about 500 meters away,” he added.
Currently, over 100 junta troops, including police and Pyu Saw Htee militia members, are stationed in Mying.
