A member of the Pyu Saw Htee militia in Tin Bek Pyu Saw Htee village, Mingin Township, Sagaing Region, killed the parents of a defector who had fled to join the resistance forces with two guns, after failing to bring him back, according to local sources.
Sixteen-year-old Maung Nyi Nyi Lin, from Tin Bek village, was forcibly recruited into the State Administration Council (SAC) – controlled Pyu Saw Htee militia . On 10 September 2024, he defected to the resistance forces, taking two guns with him. The following day, on 11 September, his parents were executed by the Pyu Saw Htee militia after they failed to convince him to return.
“The leaders of the Tin Bek Pyu Saw Htee village forced his parents to call him to come back. When they said he wouldn’t return, they were captured and then the whole village was summoned, one person per household, to witness the execution. Afterward, the bodies were dumped into the Aloungtaw Kathapa Stream near the village,” a source who have connections with the resident of Tin Bek village told MPA.
The victims of this brutal killing were U Hnin Hlaing, aged 40, and his wife Mai Ma Aye, who were both from Tin Bek village.
After news of the execution spread, village authorities from downstream areas began searching for the bodies.
“The stream flows down toward our area. As the water level is raising currengtly, we only found a bunch of banana trunks that can assume as the raft that used to carry the bodies, floating downstream. But today, around 2:30 PM, we recovered the woman’s body. We still haven’t found the man’s body,” the source added.
The vice-leader of the subtownship’s People Defense Team(Pa Ka Pha), Captain Aung Din, confirmed the news to MPA that Maung Nyi Nyi Lin was the first militia to defect with weapons from the southern region of Mingin Township, and the killing of his parents is now known by him from the internal source from Tin Bek Pyu Saw Htee village.
“He defected with the help of a friend who was a member of our resistance force. He brought two guns—a G3 and an MA3. Right now, we arranged his safety and well-being. We are also conducting a ceremony to honor his courage,” Captain Aung Din stated.
Tin Bek village is located about three miles southwest of Mingin Town and is known as a Pyu Saw Htee village under the control of the SAC.
Mingin Township hosts over 30 Pyu Saw Htee villages, making it the second largest area in the country with such villages, following Kanbalu Township.
