It is reported that the State Administration Council (SAC) is planning to deploy officers from Tada-U Myoma Police Station to the front lines in Rakhine State, and the Chief of the District Police Office has demanded 500,000 Myanmar Kyat (MMK) from those who wish to avoid the deployment.
According to a source close to Tada-U Myoma Police Station, on 30 August, the Chief of the District Police Force announced that police officers from Tada-U Myoma Police Station are scheduled to be sent to the front lines in Rakhine State at the end of September. Officers who do not wish to be deployed have been asked to pay 500,000 MMK.
“The Chief of the Township Police Office has been transferred to Mandalay, and in his absence, the Chief of the District Police Office is demanding 500,000 MMK from officers who refuse to go to the front lines. Most of the officers at the station are policewomen, with only a few policemen. Regardless, all are expected to be sent to the front lines at the end of this month. If they cannot pay, they must go. The Chief of the District Police Office is mindlessly acting on this while the Township Chief is away,” the source told MPA.
Police officers receive a monthly salary of just 200,000 MMK, making it difficult for them to afford the 500,000 MMK payment, leading them to seek financial help from close relatives and friends.
“People around them are aware of their struggles to come up with the money when they only earn 200,000 MMK per month,” the source added.
It is further reported that in July, five police officers from Tada-U Myoma Police Station were sent to the front lines in Rakhine, and three of them lost their lives.
